To understand the importance of the lymphatic system, think of the Tin Man in “The Wizard of Oz”. The Tin Man needs ‘oil’ constantly to keep his body lubricated and working. Our lymphatic system does the same thing for us and sometimes, we have areas where the water is blocked and not getting to other areas of the body to keep us functioning properly.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is “a gentle technique that works through the body’s lymphatic system to activate the body fluid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. The result of these actions can include the reduction of edemas, detoxification of the body, regeneration of tissues as well as many other benefits.
The therapist works with flat hands, using the fingers to simulate gentle, specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems.”¹
Should this service be requested or required, we educate the client on the major lymphatic areas of the body. Learning to drain these areas consistently will prevent back-up and rectify one or more potential problems of the lymphatic system.
